My Story
My name is Jim McLandress. I’ve been helping people find solutions to problems for most of my life. I’ve done so professionally for over 30 years. Although I spent two-thirds of my career in the in-house, corporate world, my roots as a litigator run deep. Over the years I’ve been fortunate to have worked with some of the best courtroom and commercial lawyers around. I’ve played the role of counsel and of client on all manner of transactions from the simplest to the most complex and have participated in all stripes of dispute resolution processes. I know what it’s like to “bet the company” if need be and I know how complicated and how delicate a process “getting to yes” can be.
I’m a Winnipegger. Giving back to my community is in my bones and I’ve done that with a host of community organizations over the past three decades. My work with these organizations and the people who support them has been an invaluable gift to me, a gift that has taught me how much more there is for all of us to learn.
All of this has given me a unique set of skills, experiences, and insights into the world of disputes, organizational challenges, and how to handle them. For me Blairgowrie Conflict Management is a way to use all I’ve learned over the years to help people and organizations resolve their disputes and challenges in as efficient and effective a way as possible.
Sometimes courtrooms really are the best place to settle differences but, over the years, I’ve come to conclude that in most cases, there are far better ways.
And in case you were wondering, Blairgowrie is a wee town in Scotland from where my Great-Great-Grandfather emigrated to Nova Scotia in 1827 at age eight. Blairgowrie is a bedroom community of Perth and produces a lot of soft fruits.
(BTW, it’s pronounced “b-l-ɛər-g-aʊ-I”. However, since that’s completely useless to anyone but a phonetician, try “Blair” as in “lair” with a “bee” in front of it + “Gow”, as in “how” but with a hard “g” instead of an "h" + “Ree” as in “whee” but less fun.)
